Match Write-up

Hewhoamareismyself: My last writeup for a UGC match was something like 1,754 words long. This won't be as long, but it'll be long. Girls in Dresses has had so much interest in 4s that over this past week I put RCX, our S12 and beyond for the forseeable future Highlander demo, touhou name Sekibanki, in charge of creating a 2nd 4s team, which we affectionately call Georgia Intelligence Department after a lobby in which 7 of our members played because why not. Since it was 5 on one team and 2 on the other the members sitting on the team with 2 GiDdy people had a good time guessing what GiD meant. RCX was especially struck by the name Georgia Intelligence Department for GiD, so he named it thusly. Personally I would have liked the tag to be GID to partner GiD but instead he opted for GeInDe, which i don't mind too much. At any rate GeInDe has been "Pending" for some days now and hasn't been accepted and given a chance to be put on ths week'sroster, a huge disappointment. It ended up working out as our demoman, Krabby. or Fujiwara no Mokou, had a friend come over right as he was about to go to bed, and has been asleep since 2 PM as a result instead of waking up at around 5 PM. We told him he could stay asleep and have RCX fill in for him. Around 5:30 PM I got similar word that Smoople, our med, touhou name Minamitsu Murasa, would also be unable to play with us tonight, so Kardbored, tentative touhou name Shingyoku while we come up with an actual one, played med for us during the match, we had then a good mix between the two teams and had half of GiD play alongside GeInDe. RCX had before agreed to be a sub for our opposing u_SuX as their leader contacted me saying he would be unable to play, thus u_SuX would be a man down. Being the kind and honest team we are, and knowing all too well that we had players itching to play, i left it open to our team. I could have had both 1862011, aka Mike aka Numbers aka Suwako Moriya, or Layla Evergreen, Layla Prismriver in Touhou form, play in their places as they were both open, but since RCX had volunteered first both had made other plans. Thus it was Icecrystal187, the head GiD admin and Brit extraordinaire, who would come to get his 2nd or 3rd UGC experience, and the first since last summer. It would certainly be the first time he played against GiD. He would have played highlander with us more often but The Queen got angry that he would be talking late at night and restricted his activities to 1 AM his time Monday through Thursday. now he is just not allowed to speak during those times. However today was a Friday, and there was nothing getting in the way for him to play for u_SuX. About 15 minutes early they joined the server while Koishi_Komeiji, aka Freeonpro, and myself, Rin Kaenbyou or Hewhoamareismyself, were going over the map strats, where to hold and reasons why he would switch classes and such. Essentially I would form my pyro loadout based on what he wasn't running as he is both a very strong scout and a very strong soldier. We had him start as scout due to his ability to help on midfights as well as the fact that I could build uber and a helpful Batallion's Backup to give us extra buffs during their uber/kritz pushes. Once we had started the match we would learn that this was wholly unnecessary as they did not have any sort of organized rollout and we beat them to mid in about half the time it took any of them to get there. Ice turned out to be the 2nd best player on their team despite playing with significantly higher ping, and their medic repeatedly disconnected from his team and ran battle medic with the blutsauger. We punished him for this virtually every time, and he never even deployed a single uber throughout the match. He didn't think to go heavy either which was the really odd decision. Though we didn't often have a significant increase in damage (in part due to my mouse being bad because I'm using a threadbare bedsheet as my mousepad, causing me to miss more than my fair share of rockets and launching them into space) we consistently had about twice to thrice the frags and in the final round the frags went down 12-2. According to our inside man most of the comms were keystrokes as they used steam group voice chat without setting up a proper push to talk, thus using it like skype with built-ins. After playing very passively for the first half we just got straight out aggressive, and spawncamped them at times. Essentially once the frags started getting spread out it would be kill the scout as he runs to mid, then the med is coming along blutsauger away, then whoever else is kind of running together but they both go down easy. The second we got aggressive with our pushing they stopped playing like a team. We learned this was in part due to interteam drama where their best player was actually to play med, their med was rather toxic about the ordeal. Ironically enough our medic outfragged theirs 4-1, and wasn't even chasing the kills. Now for a bit of map review: The extra building on each side with a silo in it (http://i.imgur.com/Irh4f69.jpg) doesn't seem to have much purpose, I could see it being okay for a forward hold but there are other places which also do that and it just sort of sits unused. Also the battlements (which we have resorted to calling fuel room) (http://i.imgur.com/78gxPBq.jpg) seems just a tad too big for fighting in. It can be made a bit tighter and still be good enough room for scouts to fight. However the latter is something really minor and overall this is a really fun map for 4s. Can't wait to see this map in the regular season because it really could be a staple map in a couple seasons.
